Istanbul (day 2)

These pictures are from the second day of our trip to Istanbul.

I think this photo from Istiklal Caddesi - the main shopping street - illustrates well the rising living standard in Istanbul. This dog has an obesity problem! Fortunately you still don't see that much of obesity among the people but certainly both cats and dogs seem to be much better fed than what I remember from earlier visits. The accessories shop - which could be from anywhere in Europe - further confirms what I'm saying about the living standard.

Myself and Marja searching ourselves in the mirror.

Traditional Istanbul houses down the Yeni Çarsi close to Istiklal Caddesi.

Kahve 6 on Anahtar Sokak in Cihangir. A really nice restaurant which favors organic ingredients. We came back here on the last day of our visit because we liked the place and the food. Standing with his back to the camera is Victor Ananias from Bugday - the Turkish Organic Association.

In the afternoon we headed from Kapaliçarsi, the Grand Bazar. This is Gate 5 where most tourists probably enter the Bazar.

There's a lot of interesting things to be seen outside the Bazar itself - shops that are catering the locals. We found this small baklava shop, tasted a few and bought a box that we enjoyed at the hotel in the evening.

Sitting outside the Bazar for a cup of Turkish tea.

It's getting dark when we were walking back to Galata. The inner courtyard or Yeni Camii in Eminönü.

I snapped this photo coming out of the tunnel in Eminönü - Marja was already outside.

A night view towards the Galata tower from the Galata bridge.
